Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system, the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health.  An adjustment or joint manipulation is the most common form of treatment to all chiropractors.  There are hundreds of techniques and clinical applications for the use of an adjustment, from the treatment of orthopedic injuries to brain rehabilitation.

The immediate benefit of an adjustment is one of restoring proper motion and alignment to a joint.  The secondary benefits  include improved neuromuscular efficiency between core muscles of the spine and extremities .  Joint manipulation also stimulates the sense receptors in the joints and muscles, and excite specific relay systems in the brain that are essential in coordinating movement, thought and behavior.  This helps to explain why chiropractic has been able to maintain its permanenancy as a valid form of healthcare since its inception.

Chiropractic Neurology

Is internationally known as Functional Neurology (see www.acfnsite.org).

Functional neurology is unique in its diagnostic and treatment approach by utilzing the latest advances in neuroscience to target and strengthen specific areas in the brain and nervous system without the use of drugs or surgery. All of our techniques utilize the body’s own natural feedback systems in order to promote neuroplasticity- to develop new connections between nerve cells and to strengthen the function of neurological systems.

Each patient receives a comprehensive health history and examination, consisting of neurological, orthopedic, musculoskeletal and organ system evaluations.

Advanced neurological testing is used to evaluate the relay centers within the nervous system that govern and control all human functions.

Some of these tests include videonystamography, computerized posturography, audiometry, oculomotor testing, balance and coordinative tests, and much more.

Once we have identified an individual’s area of weakness we can customize a treatment plan that can target these areas and progressively restore their function.

Treatment often involves a combination of physical, sensory, oculomotor and cognitive exercises.  This develops improved function within all of the neurological pathways, from sensation to perception, movement to thought and learning.

Conditions Benefiting Chiropractic Neurology:

Poor Balance and Coordination Risk for Falls Dizziness
Vertigo Scoliosis ADHD
Post Concussive Syndrome Migraines Neuropathy
Parkinson’s Multiple System Atrophy Progressive Supranuclear Palsy
Dystonia Seizure Disorder Huntington’s Disease
Tourettes Syndrome Asperger’s Developmental Delay
Anxiety Depression Insomnia
Tremor Tics Restless Leg Syndrome

Functional Neurology is a natural and holistic solution to improve your physical, emotional and mental health.

Function Neurology is essential in the treatment of:

  • traumatic brain injury
  • balance and movement disorders
  • childhood learning and behavioral disorders
  • neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s, Dementia and Parkinson’s.

Sports Medicine

As a sports practitioner, Dr. Chung will provide you with a comprehensive orthopedic and musculoskeletal evaluation to ensure an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.  He will teach you appropriate exercises for each phase of your recovery so that you can return to activity as soon as possible.  (Also see Active Release Techniques)

It is quite common that the postural muscles of the spine fail to provide core stability and result in asymmetric muscle tone and compensatory injuries to muscles and joints in the arms and legs.  A treatment approach that addresses the altered reflex activity controlling the postural muscles in addition to performing specific exercises to the injured joint can ensure a complete recovery and prevent chronic injuries in the future.

Functional Medicine

Is the use of laboratory and diagnostic testing to evaluate human physiology in health and disease.   It is standard practice for all individuals to receive blood work in order evaluate basic health parameters pertaining to red blood cells, blood sugar, liver and kidney function, and electrolytes and minerals essential for human life.   If you have not had these recently performed by your primary care physician, we can order them for you.

We can also test for early biomarkers of disease, inflammatory markers and comprehensive hormone profiles that can identify imbalances contributing to a developing disease process.  When identified early, we can often correct the cause of an imbalance and prevent disease with simple changes in your diet, lifestyle and the use of natural medicine.

Do you suffer from symptoms that your doctor has run tests for, but your results come back normal or inconclusive?

Sometimes the testing performed only involves an initial screening for common problems.  When your results are normal or inconclusive, yet you continue to suffer from concerning symptoms, you may need more sensitive or specific testing performed to obtain more information.  This can include more blood work from specialized laboratories, stool or saliva analysis or other diagnostic procedures to evaluate specific organ systems (heart, lungs, digestive and reproductive systems).

After your examination, Dr. Chung will discuss your treatment options and the necessity for additional diagnostic testing.

Conditions benefiting from Functional Medicine include:

Hypothyroidism Fatigue Weight loss
Fibromyalgia Insomnia Anxiety
Depression Migraines Hypertension
Diabetes Psoraisis Lupus
Arthritis Irritable Bowel Syndrome Chron’s Disease

Active Release Techniques

ART is a hands on case management system that combines examination and treatment techniques in order to address problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, blood vessels and nerves. Conditions that have been perceived as “unresponsive” or “difficult to treat”, can often be resolved quickly and permanently. These conditions all have one important thing in common, they are a result of overused muscles. Cumulative damage occurs with overused muscles and produces tough, dense scar tissue of the affected area. When scar tissue forms it compress muscles, blood vessels and nerves—limiting movement, strength, flexibility and skin sensation.

In each session, the ART provider uses their hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of soft tissues and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific body movements.

Repetitive Strain Injuries Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Rotator Cuff Sydrome
Nerve Entrapment Adhesive Capsulitis
Post-surgical Scar Tissue

Progressive Rehabilitation

As a patient’s pain decreases and their functional status begins to return to normal – a customized strengthening program must be initiated to stabilize the injured area and to prevent recurrence of future injuries.

The frequency and length of your care will depend on the nature of your condition. It is well known that there are 3 stages of recovery.

Each patient can chose which level they are willing to commit to achieving.

PHASE I: RELIEF CARE

PHASE II: STABILIZATION

PHASE III: MAINTENANCE
